Integrative ProAging Medicine
An average physician prescribes a medication to treat a disease. A good physician treats the symptoms before the disease is manifested. An exceptional physician treats the abnormality before the symptoms show up and the disease manifests.
Integrative medicine addresses the underlying causes of disease, using a systems-oriented approach and engaging both patient and physician in a therapeutic partnership. It is an evolution in the practice of medicine that better addresses the healthcare needs of the 21st century. By shifting the traditional disease-centered focus of medical practice to a more patient-centered approach, integrative medicine addresses the whole person, not just an isolated set of symptoms. We have to begin to approach health by thinking differently. If we do not change how we approach sickness and wellness, then we are destined to failure. Once we understand the cause we can begin to understand the solution.
Pro-aging medicine is a term used to describe a more positive approach to preventative skincare. It is a concept that has at its roots a much more positive approach to the aging process. According to dermatologists, the best skincare is one of preventative action, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and listening to the changing needs of your skin. The term “pro-aging” is used to describe a more balanced approach. It means working with your body, using moisture, antioxidants, and cell turnover to keep skin looking its best.
In contrast to anti-aging products that have become wildly successful through targeted marketing that makes aging seem like you’re doing something wrong, pro-aging medicine focuses on supporting the skin’s natural progression while taking care of what is inside our bodies. As the approach gains momentum, experts are looking to less invasive skincare options that support the organic aging of the skin, working with the body instead of against it
Wellness
Wellness is the absence of disease, the simplest definition. The National Wellness Institute defines wellness as “an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a more successful existence”. We like to say that wellness is the heightened ability to protect ourselves from physical, emotional, and mental effects of stress in our lives.
Physical Wellness – the ability to apply knowledge, motivation, commitment, behavior, self-management, attitude, and skills toward achieving your personal fitness and health goals. It is about having high levels of energy and vitality. It is freedom from pain or high adaptability to pain. It is to live with a strong immune system. To have a body that feels light, balanced, strong and flexible. It is the ability to meet physical challenges at full capacity.
Emotional Wellness – the ability to meet your emotional needs constructively with a positive attitude and the ability to respond resiliently to emotional states and the flow of everyday life. It is taking responsibility for your own behavior and respond to challenges as opportunities. It is high self-acceptance and the capacity to identify, express, experience, and accept all your feelings.
Intellectual Wellness – having the curiosity and strong desire to learn, to value all experiences, to feel stimulated with new ideas, and to share your discoveries with others. It has little to do with high IQ and/or ability to debate.
Spiritual Wellness – is being able to look within and work your spiritual core on a moment-to-moment basis by allowing your spirit to influence how you view and serve life. It is the absence of fear, the ability to love unconditionally, to hold a sense of purpose, trust your intuition, to be open to change, gratitude for the richness and meaningfulness of life, and the creation of your own sacred place for prayer, meditation, and/or contemplation.
Our medical practice emphasizes the adoption of long-term personal lifestyle and behavioral changes that minimizes the onset and impact of unwanted physical, emotional, and mental stress. Our approach is to treat patients beyond sickness care and symptom-masking through medications. Wellness is about 95% self-care, the type of care that cannot be passed off to doctors. We may give our patients all the necessary tools to improve their health, but it is their commitment that can make changes to achieve a healthy lifestyle to live in maximum wellness. Great effort, wise decision making, and good habits are the key for success. The number one reason most people fail to achieve the desired wellness state of health is because the information they received is inaccurate, distorted, or deliberately misleading. We will give you the correct tools and you will get the results that you are searching for.

Body Detoxification
Every wellness program starts with a detoxification program. This process will help the patients prepare their gut to start the correct gastrointestinal absorption needed to improve their health. The gut is very important to keep an immunologically active system and the ability to extract necessary nutrients from our diet. Some of the gut-related symptoms that are not the typical ones diagnosed by doctors are skin manifestations, depression, memory/cognitive changes, fatigue/lethargy, and/or decreased strength. We need to assess gastrointestinal function and restore normal flora through stool analysis, food allergy testing, and a gluten/dairy free diet to balance the normal bacterial flora of the gut.

Medical Fitness
Athletes are the group of people that have the highest level of fitness and health. Our Doctor-Supervised Weight Management Program emphasizes nutrition and exercise to achieve a better state of physical health. From day one patients are evaluated like athletes. Patients are tested so they may know their basal metabolic rate, percentage of muscle and fat in their body, the percentage of intra-cellular and extra-cellular water, daily energy expenditure, amount of calories needed daily, among other necessary information.
In the past, weight loss programs were based on one metric and one metric alone; pounds lost. Pounds lost could have been from exercise, proper nutrition, or both. Later in the timeline of weight management, we looked at a food journal and cross compare calorie consumption with a metabolic test, which was a calories in vs. calories out system. It still is that way today. However, what we look at today, from a clinical standpoint, is vastly changing as we move into the future. In our program, we use oral supplements to complement the exercise programs to achieve the desired goal; wellness and weight management. The use of medications is a last resort and we do not encourage it.
Now, with the introduction of Clinical Bio-Metrics, we can examine the full picture, both internally and externally, as each individual moves through a personalized weight management and overall health journey. Additionally, we make the data easy for patients to comprehend. Fitness Bio-Scores are averages taken from your Bio-Metric Measurements that make it easier for you to see progress without having to dissect all the complicated numbers.
External Bio-Metric Score
As done in most primary care offices, we measure height, weight & BMI, and tobacco use status. We also measure the hips and then the waistline giving this a ratio. Plus, we measure blood pressure, this has been tracked before, but we are putting a higher focus on this moving forward in our program
Internal Bio-Metric Score
Internal Bio-Metrics are the newest addition to the medically supervised weight management program. These metrics are looking deep into your health and into the future of your health. Most of the values we measure are done in primary care offices, but the way we use the information is functionally advanced. In order to achieve this score, we measure Total Cholesterol, HDL, LDL,TC/HDL ratio, LDL/HDL ratio, Triglycerides, Glucose, and HbA1c.
Example: If your test results come back as 3,000 calorie limit to maintain your weight, we would expect that you consume 6 meals in a day at roughly 500 calories each. If your 30-minute expenditure is 300 calories and you have a 1-hour workout in a day you could consume an additional 600 calories and maintain your current weight. Or, if you do not consume that additional 600 calories, you would give your body the opportunity to lose weight! See how it pays to know your number?

Bio-Identical Hormone Restoration
Hormone response is as unique to each person as their own fingerprints. We age because our hormones decline. Hormonal decline is a normal result of years of aging. Normal laboratory values do not necessarily mean that hormone levels are optimal. Our goal is to restore hormone levels to the normal physiological level of a younger individual. We need to provide the protective benefits hormones induce to the entire body. Once we correct imbalance, symptoms will usually resolve; “autoregulation” of our bodies. We dose our patient’s symptoms not the laboratory results. If laboratory values are “optimal” and symptoms persist then there is something out of balance.
Restoring more youthful levels of all hormones will result in:
